At the Suns Scrimmage at the Grand Canyon University Arena Wednesday night, fans got their first opportunity to see new free agent acquisition Shannon Brown in a Phoenix Suns uniform.
Brown made his presence known with a highlight filled second quarter. He has 16 points on the night along with three steals.
“Myself being a smaller scoring guard I give people a different look,” Brown explained. “Doing a lot of different think offensively and defensively to help this team win.”
The former Michigan State standout is entering his sixth season in the NBA as a Phoenix Sun. Brown spent the last two seasons as a Los Angeles Laker where he made a name for himself at the professional level.
“With the Lakers it was structure. You had to give the ball to the right player at the right time,” Brown said. “Here we run a whole lot more. I like it!”
In the 2006 NBA draft, Brown was taken 26th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. At that time, current Suns General Manager Lance Blanks was in the Cavs front office when the selection was made. Since being drafted in 2006, Brown has now played for five teams in six seasons.
Brown is almost know for his great leaping ability. He estimated to have a 44.5-inch vertical which is one of the best in the NBA.
Suns fans will look forward to Brown’s explosive game along side Steve Nash in the backcourt.
