With eyebrow raising picks taken in front of them, the Phoenix Suns used the 5th pick in Thursday nights draft to select 7″1 center Alex Len out of Maryland. He averaged 12 pts. and 8 boards last season. He came from the Ukraine, “I’m so excited, it’s a dream come true, two years I had no idea I’d be here at this point”, Len said after he was selected.
Anthony Bennett from UNLV was selected first by Cleveland and Cody Zeller was taken fourth by Charlotte. Both of those picks were surprises, but it left Phoenix with a decision to take one of two bigmen, Alex Len from Maryland or Nerlens Noel out of Kentucky. They decided to go with the classic low post center in Len.
