Welcome to The Official Visits, a weekly recruiting notebook I plan to post each Friday night giving you insight from some of Arizona’s top high school football prospects and commits. Each edition will have multiple interviews with players around the state covering where they are in their recruitment and the interesting aspects that make their experiences unique.
Stevie Rocker – Canyon del Oro
The Canyon del Oro running back is one of the most talented players in the 2021 class. He has yet to take a snap in 2019 due to an ankle injury but said he is scheduled to make a return in the next few weeks. He rushed for over 1,100 yards as a sophomore and currently holds offers from Cal, Nevada, BYU and Arizona.
One of his friends and mentors is Salpointe Catholic running back Bijan Robinson, who has tabbed Rocker as the next great Tucson running back. Rocker and Robinson describe their relationship here:
Kyion Grayes – Chandler
The Chandler 2022 athlete is one of the many targets for Mikey Keene this year, and I was impressed Friday night in my first time watching him in-person. He hauled in a touchdown pass and turned a screen play into a big gain while changing directions a few times. One thing head coach Rick Garretson loves about Grayes’ game is he isn’t afraid to get physical when blocking.
Grayes currently has offers from Arizona State, Arizona, Kansas and NAU.
Jared Williams – Chaparral
Like Rocker and Robinson, Chaparral 2021 running back Jared Williams learned a lot from last year’s Firebird workhorse Darvon Hubbard. Hubbard is now with Willow Canyon and Williams is the featured back at Chaptown, but the 2021 running back said he learned so much from last year’s starter.
Williams currently holds an offer from NAU and accounted for 216 yards and four touchdowns through two games. He is already just seven yards short of his receiving total from last year. He sat down with Sports360AZ to talk about the Lumberjacks, the old school style he takes to the field and being the featured back in the Firebird backfield.
