The Tate Show does it Again…

Arizona Sports News online

Khalil Tate showed off his stuff again on Saturday night. The Wildcat quarterback ran for 137 yards, scored a touchdown, and passed for two more in the Arizona road win at Cal. Tate is averaging 57 yards per carry on his 7 touchdown runs this season.
He deserves to be in the Heisman conversation, though most voters probably haven’t seen him play a down this season because of the Wildcats almost weekly appearance on the Pac-12 Network.
I actually do put down my money each month to have access to the Network. Saturday night I watched Tate from start to finish in the Arizona win over Cal. He’s more than just a one trick pony.
He’s in the top ten on my Heisman ballot. Not too many players I’ve seen this season that have shown the total package. Saturday, Sam Darnold was sent to the bench by USC in their disastrous showing at Notre Dame. Josh Rosen has been up and down at UCLA. Manny Wilkins has had a solid season at Arizona State. Luke Falk at Washington State has shown a promising future too. Perhaps all of the above will go on to the NFL, which is all well and good, but doesn’t have one ounce of credibility towards the Heisman.
Tate should get a real shot to show off his stuff to the country the next couple of weeks. Arizona hosts Washington State and then goes to USC. If you haven’t seen Tate do his thing, you’re missing out…

Cleaning Out the Notebook
Tyrann Mathieu is moving up the list of Valley athletes who need to show something on the field. Facts are facts, outside of the interception at Indianapolis in week two, there hasn’t been much coming from him. He is due big money next March if he’s still on the teams roster. He’s one player to watch today against the Rams.

Stormed a sideline on Friday night at Perry high school. Hamilton and the Pumas were playing Arena Football on a high school field. The two teams combined for 91 points in the first half. I was standing on the sideline chatting with David Hines, Executive Director of the AIA, while both teams were scoring at a break neck pace. We both thought of the late Barry Sollenberger, as the score continued to climb. Barry would’ve known the total for the state record for points scored in a Big School game…

Much like Khalil Tate, Perry quarterback Brock Purdy is worth the price of admission. How he has not been offered Power 5 scholarships from across the country shows how inexact the process is…
The Coyotes or the Suns? Who wins A game first? Who will win more games this season? Will either team reach double digits in victories?
