Imagine Christian McCaffrey in the Bruce Arians offense. At the Combine this past week Steve Keim didn’t shut the door on the Cardinals adding at running back this offseason. You can tell me all day long that the Cardinals have to use their first round pick on more pressing needs, but if you go by the definition of best football player on the board, there can’t be many in front of McCaffrey. When I hear phrases like “we think we’ve got it under control” when talking about John Brown or “he SHOULD be fine” when talking about Jaron Brown, well, count me as one that believes you’ve got question marks at the skill position. McCaffrey isn’t just a running back. Go put on the tape of McCaffrey v Iowa in the 2016 Rose Bowl, then get back to me…
Give Todd Graham credit, in year one of his program he had QB Joshua Dobbs in the fold until letter of intent day when Dobbs flipped to Tennessee. He was going to be a Sun Devil and the disaster at QB last season would likely have been avoided had he come to Tempe. Dobbs is part of the quarterback class at the Combine this weekend…
Having covered Bobby Beathard when he was GM for the Chargers, I’d dig deeper on his grandson, QB C.J. Beathard out of Iowa. Beathard and Steve Keim are the two best football minds I’ve been around through 30 years. That stuff can rub off. Doesn’t mean i’d draft him, but if he’s a free agent i’d kick the tires…
The All-Name team from the Combine:KD Cannon WR Baylor, Taco Charlton DE Michigan(has been compared to Chandler Jones, you could have “Taco Tuesday” for each sack, brilliant!!) Chunky Clements DT(of course he is) Illinois, Cooper Kupp WR Eastern Washington, Michael Tyson S Cincinnati(nickname HAS to be “Iron” right?)
Jerry Colangelo should’ve had the mic for a segment during Al McCoys Ring of Honor Induction on Friday night. Sure, Al paid great respect to Jerry in his comments, but C’MON, Jerry HIRED Al!!! We all wanted to hear what he had to say.
Other than Al being honored, it wasn’t a good week for the Lonzo Ball sweepstakes. Tankapolooza crashed and burned for a couple of nights with the Suns winning games that won’t matter when they aren’t in the playoffs for the 7th straight season…
