Top 2015 DBs Remain Busy in Recruitment, Local Products Working with Warner and Kaepernick

Arizona Sports News online

My Extra Points column consists of notes pertaining to high school football in Arizona. Here is what has caught my eye this week.

Parenteau Picking Up Momentum: Jason Jewell and I of the Recruiting Roundup named Boulder Creek safety Ryan Parenteau the defensive player of the year after and unbelievably dominant 2014 season. He continues to be among the top 2015 players that is yet to commit with Signing Day just weeks away. Right now he has an offer from Holy Cross and Southern Utah with Wyoming having been documented as a program that has a lot of interest but has not yet offered. Two schools have really picked up their interest in Parenteau of late. The Fiesta Bowl champion Boise State Broncos has a lot of interest in him as do the Rice Owls. Rice would be a very intuiting offer as Parenteau, who was named first team All-Academic by us at Sports360az this season, plans to become a doctor. Rice based on both their football and academics could be an excellent fit. Right now I am told that Rice has their full number of commitments at that position but some of those players have been offered by Big Ten schools. If any decommit, Parenteau could be the one they zero in on. Boise State would also be an exciting offer for him for obvious reasons. Parenteau’s recruitment over the next few weeks is really something to keep an eye on.

Wilson to Weber?: One of the top playmaking corner backs in the state for the 2015 class is Liberty’s Kory Wilson. Right now Wilson holds an offer from Navy but is getting a lot of interest from the Wildcats of Weber State. He is going to visit Ogden, Utah at the end of this month and if he likes what he sees, the could be where he lands. Wilson is also toying with the notion of going the JUCO route with the hopes of then transferring to a power five school from there. But scholarships are hard to turn aways and as of know, it is between Navy and Weber State.

Warner and Kaepernick working with local talent: There was quite the workout that occurred at Pinnacle High School on Thursday. It had already been reported that former Cardinals legend Kurt Warner is going to spend time with 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick this off season. They were out on Thursday running drills with local AZ talent. Among the players on the field with Warner and Kaepernick was soon-to-be Aggie Christian Kirk and Former Mountain Pointe, current UNLV DB Dominique Fenstermacher. Some Arizona State players were out there as well. This is the time of year where future pros and current pros spend a ton of time training in the beautiful Phoenix weather. It’s a great opportunity for local high school players to get reps in with the best of the best.
