Trading Montero was a good move

SAN DIEGO-No surprise that Miguel Montero is a former Diamondback. I’m not going to throw dirt on him going out the door, but after 14 years his time in Arizona needed to come to an end just from a pure financial standpoint(owed 40-million). This isn’t a team that is in “win now” mode. Time to retool behind home plate.

Montero should do well in Chicago and the players coming over from the Cubs are pitching prospects. General Manager Dave Stewart told reporters earlier today that the team was going to add another catcher so stay tuned.

As for the state of the 2015 Arizona Diamondbacks as we sit here tonight, it’s clearly a work in progress. Along with still needing to add help behind the plate(though Peter O’Brien is their catcher of the future) there is a log jam(competition) in the outfield and the pitching still doesn’t have what I consider to be a top of the rotation guy. The cupboard isn’t bare, but after two days here in San Diego there still needs to be more work in order to excite the fan base. Let’s not forget that the 2014 season produced the smallest average attendance in the history of the franchise. 

The reason for optimism offensively would be IF Goldschmidt, Trumbo, and Yasmany Tomas stay healthy, that’s seem to be a very tough middle of the order to navigate through for opposing pitchers.
