Tyler Shough Signs With Ducks, Preps to Enroll Early

Hamilton quarterback Tyler Shough, one of the hottest recruits in the nation, made it official on Wednesday, signing with the Oregon Ducks.

The four-star commit and Elite 11 quarterback saw his recruitment explode about nine months ago. He had initially committed to North Carolina, but when the Ducks came calling, Shough had to listen.

The Hamilton signal-caller has a lot of family in Oregon, and his grandfather’s contracting company helped build Autzen Stadium.

“I knew where I wanted to go once I really (visited Oregon). It’s a dream school,” Shough said. “Just get it over with quickly, I will be heading up there in January, so just sign early, make it official and start the whole new process and journey. Just work hard and do everything I can on this new team that I’m on.”

Hamilton head coach Dick Baniszewski addressed the audience in an event honoring Shough and Hamilton cornerback Clayton Hooper, who committed to South Dakota State. He said Shough, a 6-foot-4.5, 185-pound quarterback, attacks his workouts and prep work like a “5-foot-6 kid that is never going to get to play but really loves the sport.”

“Tyler is just an old soul,” Baniszewski said. “He is a leader, he’s unflappable, he’s got ice in his veins. There were times we’d be down in situations and Tyler would be the first one to grab me on the shoulder and say, ‘Hey Coach, relax, we’re good.’ He’s a different kid, and I’ve coached a lot of guys over the years but never someone with his maturity and his demeanor, and it was a pleasure.”

Nice Day For The Ducks

Currently, the Ducks are ranked 13th in the nation with their recruiting class according to 247Sports, and Shough expects big things for this group.

“(They are) big, fast and strong,” Shough said. “They’re great guys and I’ve come to know them so far and we really are a brotherhood, I’m really excited for what our future has to hold because they’re great players but I think we’re really good off the field as well.”
