Arizona United SC enters Thursday’s match riding a two game winning streak. The club defeated the Seattle Sounders FC 2, 2-1, on June 20 and then defeated the Real Monarchs SLC, 2-1, on June 27. Against the Monarchs, forward Long Tan scored his team-high sixth goal on the season to give Arizona United SC the lead in the second half. However, the Monarchs managed to level the game late in the 82nd minute. In the dying minutes of the match a goal in the 93rd minute from Scott Morrison gave Arizona United SC the much needed three points.
“Wins always help, and learning from wins is much easier than losing,” said head coach Michael Dellorusso. “I think the guys are looking forward to it because we are in that grind with training, so they get that quick turn around to play a game.”
Portland Timbers FC 2 enter Thursday’s match coming off of a 1-0 loss to Seattle Sounders FC 2 on June 29. They are led by forward Kharlton Belmar who has seven goals and forward Rundell Winchester with two goals and three assists. Portland Timbers FC 2 currently sits at 9th in the Western Conference with 17 points. Arizona United SC is tied for sixth place in the standings with 19 points.
