VIDEO: Christian Kirk Talks #SagU, TAMU and the NFL

Few Arizona high school athletes left a bigger imprint on their respective sport than Christian Kirk. In the coming weeks the former Saguaro High School and Texas A&M star will look to do the same in Indianapolis before dozens of scouts and team personnel at the annual NFL Scouting Combine.

Kirk’s football success has been a product of God-given talent, hard work, dedication and the drive to excel both on the field and in life.

“That’s the key, all the work I’ve been putting in when nobody else is watching,” Kirk said to Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat during a recent in-studio sit down. “All the extra work, whether we have workouts or not.”

Since announcing his intention to turn pro following his junior season at A&M, Kirk has returned to the Valley and continues his Combine training at EXOS in north Phoenix. He signed with Chandler-based Elite Athlete Management and is represented by well-respected agent Zeke Sandhu.

Kirk’s strict, dedicated work ethic was evident dating back to his days at #SagU where the four-year varsity performer tallied over 6500 total yards, while scoring a jaw-dropping 103 touchdowns and leading the Sabercats to back-to-back state championships.

“I’ve always had a vision of where I’ve wanted to be,” he explained. “I’ve always had goals. The key has been being consistent in what I’m doing. Doing all the little things to try to be great.”

Success Under Sumlin

He attributes much of his growth as a player and a leader to new University of Arizona head coach Kevin Sumlin, who helped bring Kirk to College Station when he held the same position at A&M.

The five-star recruit had close to 40 offers and selected the Aggies over ASU, USC and Oregon.

“There wasn’t another coach in college football that I’d rather play for,” Kirk said of Sumlin who fired by the university back in late November after six seasons at TAMU. “Just the opportunity he gave me. A kid out of Arizona with big dreams and wanted to go play in the SEC. He took a chance on me and believed I could do everything that I accomplished at A&M and was real from the get-go.”

Kirk was an All-SEC First-team member the past two seasons under Sumlin.
