Week one of the high school football season in Arizona didn’t disappoint, as a few games came down to the wire.

Here were some of the top moments and plays from Friday evening’s opening night. There were many highlights to choose from, and we will have more content coming your way throughout the weekend.

Queen Creek’s Game-Winning Touchdown In The Fourth Quarter

Queen Creek and Perry went down to the wire in Friday’s opening matchup, but the Bulldogs would prevail in the final minutes, as in the red zone with under five minutes remaining, quarterback Devin Brown found 6-foot-6 wideout Colby Garvin in the corner of the end zone.

Down 28-27 at the time, the score would prove to be the difference and Queen Creek went on to win 35-28.

The Keene-Kyion Connection

On the west side of town, Chandler defeated Liberty 44-10. Leading the way was UCF quarterback commit Mikey Keene, who hooked up with Arizona wide receiver commit Kyion Graves four times for touchdowns.

The defending Open Division Champs looked like they were back in business and didn’t miss a beat with their star quarterback-wide receiver duo.

Hamilton Rolls In Marchiol’s Debut

Speaking of teams on Arizona Avenue, the Hamilton Huskies came out strong in their 42-0 shutout over Centennial. In his debut after transferring from Regis Jesuit High School in Colorado, Hamilton quarterback Nicco Marchiol was as impressive as advertised and look poised and confident from the get-go against the west side power in Centennial.

Notre Dame Prep Takes The Holy Bowl

Notre Dame Prep took down Brophy Prep in a battle of two catholic schools on Friday night that was being deemed as “The Holy Bowl.” Sports360AZ’s Eric Sorenson was at the game and he will have much more on the action.

As for other matchups, Casteel held on in a 36-35 thriller against Boulder Creek, Desert Edge rolled in their season debut with the Carter twins, Eric Rogers got his first win as head coach at Salpointe Catholic, and Pinnacle defeated Horizon in a battle of Scottsdale schools.
