Friday night’s Show Low vs. Snowflake game lived up to its billing as one of Arizona’s most storied rivalries. The Cougar scratched pay dirt with just eleven seconds left in the ball game as Colby Maxwell completed a five-yard touchdown pass to Trevor Solomon to bring the Show Low squad within one at 23-22 . Dallin Crandell scampered in for the 2 pt. conversion to put the Cougs up for good at 24-23.
Show Low led through three-quarters until the Lobos’ Dallin Merrill engineered back to back drives that culminated in touchdown passes to Braccin Tanner for 55 yards with 2:06 remaining and another for 39 yards with :55 remaining. Tanner led all receivers with five receptions for 143 yards. Merrill passed for 165 yards on 7 for 19 but also gave up two interceptions. The big story on the Cougar side of the ball was Dallin Crandell’s 221 yards rushing on 25 carries. Crandell had two rushing touchdowns to lead Show Low.
The win keeps Show Low perfect at 4 – 0 as they travel to Payson on Friday. The Lobos drop to 2-2 and will travel to St. Johns in a non-conference matchup.
In other contests it was Blue Ridge moving up to 5-0 with a win over Round Valley 42-14. The Yellow Jackets hope to stay unscathed on the road in Holbrook this Friday as the 1-3 Elks travel to Morenci.
Alchesay fell to 0-4 tumbling to Scottsdale Christian. The Eagles will visit Globe.
St Johns topped Chinle to improve their record to 3-1 as they host Snowflake. It was Payson over Miami 44-0. The 3-1 Longhorns host the 4-0 Show Low Cougars in one of the games on the Pros2Preps.com radar.
Holbrook got their record to .500 at 2-2 with an impressive 44-19 win over Fort Defiance. The Roadrunners will have to live up to their name this week as they host Blue Ridge. The Winslow Bulldogs mauled Ganado 48-0 to improve their record to 3-1. They tackle Chinle in Winslow Friday night.
The 8 man rivalry of Mogollon and Joseph City went the way of the Mustangs Friday night 58-26. Undefeated Mogollon travels to Ash Fork Friday.
