Wolves Feast On Over-Matched Pinnacle

Chandler Starts Fast, Cruises Past Over Matched Pinnacle

The Pinnacle High School student section was filled with American flags which they proudly waved before Thursday night’s kickoff against top-ranked Chandler.

After the first play from scrimmage they may as well waved white flags.

Wolves’ speedy star running back Chase Lucas took the jet sweep handoff running towards the Pioneers’ bench, cut up field and raced 80 yards in what would be one of many Chandler explosive plays as they rolled to 56-10 win on a steamy night in north Phoenix.

“Our guys have been chomping at the bit a little bit since last season,” Chandler head coach Shaun Aguano explained after. “We have six receivers and four running backs. [We] have depth and speed.”

Ya think?

The Wolves (1-0) scored on their first four possessions and led 28-0 at the end of the opening quarter before essentially, pardon the pun, calling off the dogs. It was their 11th-straight win dating back to last season’s Division I championship run.

“I’m proud of my players,” Pinnacle head coach Dana Zupke told Sports360AZ.com. “I don’t think they ever laid down. They never quit. We’re really young and they’re very good.”

The game also marked the debut of Oregon State quarterback commit Mason Moran who finally got the keys to the Wolves’ fully loaded, race car offense after waiting behind now-Arizona State freshman Bryce Perkins.

His head coach certainly liked what he saw from the 6’3, 215-pound senior who threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more.

“We knew what he could do,” Aguano said. “I still think he’s the best quarterback in the state.”

He’s going to have to be as Chandler faces national power Bishop Gorman August 29th in Las Vegas.
